Waterloo In Words
September 14, 2023
Three guided walks by accredited Lambeth Tours Guides leaving from Waterloo station at 11am, 2pm and 6pm.
The poems and the poets, the lyrics and the lyricists, the stories behind them. Starting at the Windrush Monument on Waterloo station and its passionate accompanying poem and finishing on Westminster Bridge, where William Wordsworth wrote those famous lines, this 90 minute walking tour takes you on a poetical voyage with strong links to this year’s National Poetry Day theme of ‘refuge’. Along the way you will meet war poets, calypso kings, Victorian navvies and members of the International Brigade. You will discover poems about homelessness, child labour, courage in the face of adversity, and a poem lost but ultimately rescued.
