As part of National Poetry Day celebrations, the Bristol Poetry Institute, in conjunction with Residential Life, invites you to take part in Poetry Karaoke. The event will comprise of a series of poetry readings from a panel and from audience members.
As with ordinary karaoke, poetry karaoke invites audience members up to the (virtual) stage to perform. Instead of singing, however, performers at poetry karaoke are asked to first briefly introduce a chosen poem, then read the poem aloud while virtual audience members watch on.
The event will provide an informal, relaxed and welcoming space for readers and audience members to share in not just an hour of poetry, but an hour of poetry that means something to those in attendance.
Any choice of poem is welcome, whether the work of a published poet (of any standing), a spoken word poet, or a piece of your own poetry. We would also welcome poetry in any language. Those new to poetry but wanting to take part may wish to read one of the poems suggested by the National Poetry Day website.
The event will take place online. Attendance is free but registration is required via our website.
