Just up the road (A12) from where I live in suffolk, Edward FitzGerald 1809 – 1883 translated and adapted his world famous poem The Ruba’iya’t of Omar Khayyam.
The first word of this universally loved noetic poetic published in 1859 is ‘Awake’.
To be… ‘Awake’… Infinite Consciousness Being Aware of Itself (The Unity of Spirit)is the purpose of all Spiritual Traditions, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Daoism, Hinduism et al hence when i read the Zen Master Hakuin’s Song of Meditation I felt I just had to reduce it to four lines – to a quatrain that E.F.G used in his poem. This can be found in copies of the Temenos Academy Review No 23 just out – and just waiting for you.
