Teachers, here’s a suggestion – turn your pupils into published poets and authors with We Are Writers.
We Are Writers gives children the unique opportunity to see their writing printed in a real book. With We Are Writers, any child can become a published author or poet in a book they can treasure for years to come.
Any form of writing can be published in a We Are Writers book: recipes, stories, plays, news articles – and of course poems! You can use the unique resources created by Scholastic to make your book including writing prompts, activity sheets and story planners as well as the National Poetry Day resources.
You can make a We Are Writers book per class, per house, per school – however you want to split it. It’s free to take part and your school will get a free final copy for your library. We Are Writers is a brilliant way to inspire children to write and when the final books come in, children are so proud of their achievements that every parent, grandparent and family member will want a copy.
Whether it is a few words or a few pages, encourage as many pupils as possible to take part. For a young writer to see their words in print is a motivating experience whether they are a gifted or a reluctant writer. With their work in print, children can consider themselves successful writers, building their self-esteem and allowing them to become more positive and confident in their attitude towards writing. Children can enter their poem or story into our simple-to-use website, overseen by you. Once finished, Scholastic publishes the book and sends it to your school along with the tools to help you sell copies to parents and family members.
Each book contains an introduction by a prominent children’s author. For 2018 the introduction is by the one and only Michael Rosen, surely top of many children’s lists of favourite poets. That means if you make a We Are Writers book children will be published alongside a former Children’s Laureate!
If you create a We Are Writers book, you will earn 20% of your order total back in Scholastic Rewards that you can spend on a range of books and teacher resources on Scholastic’s online shop. You can even run We Are Writers alongside your Scholastic Book Fair, and sell copies of your book alongside the newest and best children’s books available.
If you’re writing poetry this National Poetry Day – and we hope you are – then raise the stakes and create your school’s very own poetry anthology.
