7th Ó Bhéal International Five Words Poetry Competition
At around noon each Tuesday (GMT), from April 2019 to the end of January 2020, five words are posted on the Ó Bhéal Five Words competition page. Entrants have one week to compose and submit poems that include all five words given for the week.
The competition runs for 41 weeks, until the last week of January and a prize of 500 euro is awarded to one winner, and if available, invited to read at Ó Bhéal’s anniversary event in early April (an additional travel fee of 100 euro plus B&B accommodation will be provided for this).

A Poem for Europe Poetry Competition
First prize £500
A new national competition to find the most thoughtful and inspiring poem about Europe. Entrants are invited to share their emotions about Europe and its future by writing a poem (maximum length of 32 lines) expressing them. Poems will be judged by Gillian Clarke.
All poets on the short list will be invited to read their poems before the prize giving. Shortlisted poems will be published online and in print too. The winners will be announced in October.

Wells Festival of Literature’s Open Poetry Competition
This year’s Open Poetry judge is Simon Armitage.
Prize giving will be on Sunday 20th October 2019 during the Wells Festival of Literature. First prize £750, Second £300, Third £200, Local prize £100. All poets on the short list will be invited to read their poems before the prize giving. The winners will be announced on 20th October.
