Poetry Writing for National Writing Day

June 19, 2020

National Writing Day is the annual celebration of the pleasure and power of writing creatively, inspiring people of all ages and abilities to try writing for fun and self-expression. This year, we have two poetry resources to help you write Vision themed poems.

The first is from poet and National Poetry Day Ambassador, James Carter and designed for Primary school students (KS2/3). James has written a brilliant workshop on how to write a creature poem, which you can download by clicking here or on the image below.

The second is from John McCullough, one of our 2018 #BBCLocalPoets, and is designed for Secondary school students (KS 3/4/5). John has kindly suggested a few writing prompts to help create a poem that invites a new vision of the world, which you can download by clicking here or on the image below.

You can also watch John read and talk about this poem on YouTube here.

Be sure to share your students Vision poems by tagging @writeday on Twitter and using the hashtags #writefromhome #NationalWritingDay on June 24th to get involved. Find more tips and resources on the National Writing Day website www.nationalwritingday.org.uk.
